4) What if I'm not sure if my computer will run the game?
If you're not sure if your computer will run the game, download the demo and try that first. If your system runs the demo, the full version will run as well.
Playing The Game: BACK TO TOP 1) HOW TO RUN STAR TREK: VOYAGER - ELITE FORCE Single Player: The single player game allows you, the player, to assume the role of Alexander(or Alexandria) Munro, 2nd in command of the Hazard Team, which was formed by Lt. Commander Tuvok to handle extreme situations that Voyager and her crew may encounter. When you install Elite Force, the installer will place two options in the start menu: one for single player and one for multiplayer. From the Start menu select “Programs/Raven Software/Star Trek Voyager Elite Force/Play Elite Force Single Player” to run the single player game. Multiplayer: The multiplayer element of Elite Force is a different entity from the single player game. It has a separate game executable and a unique set of game play options. When you install Elite Force, the installer will place two options in the start menu: one for single player and one for multiplayer. From the Start Menu select “Programs/Raven Software/ Star Trek Voyager Elite Force/Play Elite Force Multiplayer” to play the multiplayer game. 2) ELITE FORCE QUICK START GUIDE http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/quick_start_guide.htm 3) THE MAIN MENU http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/single_player_main_menu.htm 4) PLAYING THE GAME http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/playing_the_game.htm 5) VIDEO http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/single_player_main_menu.htm#Video 6) CONTROLS http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/single_player_main_menu.htm#Controls 7) SOUND http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/single_player_main_menu.htm#Sound 8) GAME OPTIONS http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/help/help/Manual/single_player_main_menu.htm#GameOptions 9) DEFAULT SETTINGS You can return all settings to their defaults by clicking this menu button. Like all PC games, Elite Force requires the latest video, sound and DirectX drivers to run well. Check out this page for the latest reference drivers for most video and sound cards. For the latest DirectX version, visit the downloads section of www.microsoft.com. Elite Force comes with a version of GL Setup on the CD. The drivers have all been tested with the game. If you are having trouble initializing the game, run GL Setup from your CD. 2) I'm getting an error message that says "Could Not Load OpenGL Subsystem." How do I fix this error? 1. Check to make sure that your video card is supported by the game (see list above) 2. If it is, download the latest reference drivers for your video card from here or run the GL Setup utility that's on the Elite Force CD. 3. Grab DirectX 7.0a from http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp 3) My Voodoo card won't handle 1024 X 768 resolution without crashing. It only runs in 800X600. How can I fix this? I have the latest drivers. The latest 3DFX drivers for Voodoo cards can be flaky with Quake III and Elite Force. Try the Wicked3D drivers from http://www.wicked3d.com 4) Windows 95 is having problems with OpenGL so I can't run the game. How can I fix this? If you have Windows 95a, it comes with OpenGL version 1.0 (Windows 95 OSR2 and Windows 98 and later already have OpenGL Version 1.1). Go to the OpenGL site and get OpenGL Version 1.1 (really a new OpenGL32.dll and some other files) that Microsoft provides. Download it and place the files in the Windows\System directory. It will fix OpenGL problems with the Win95a Operating System. 5) I notice texture tearing in the game using my GeForce or GeForce 2 card. How do I fix this? The problem in the rendering happens when the game is running too fast. You can fix the tearing by bringing down the console with the ~ key and typing r_swapinterval 1 and hitting enter. This will turn v_sync on, causing the game to run slower. It fixes the tearing, but sacrifices speed. 6) My nVidia card (TNT, TNT2, GeForce, GeForce2) isn't running the game. Why not? There are issues with the 6.18 drivers for nVidia cards and Elite Force. Use an older driver version or a newer version. The GL Setup version on the Elite Force CD has the 5.3 drivers and they work splendidly. The 6.26 drivers also work. 7) How do I adjust the brightness of the game beyond what the brightness slider allows? Use the ~ tilde key to bring down the console. Set your r_intensity value higher and then type vid_restart and hit enter. 8) I'm having troubles getting my G400 card to work with Elite Force. Any advice? Yes. Try these drivers: http://www.reactorcritical.com/files/Matrox/w9x_601_beta.exe 9) What are the best drivers for Voodoo2/Voodoo3 Cards? The Wicked3D drivers from http://www.wicked3d.com reportedly have the best results as well as performance. Sound Issues: BACK TO TOP 1) Is EAX sound supported in Elite Force? Elite Force does not support EAX. However, it does support A3D which is supported by EAX 2.0. 2) The game freezes or locks up repeatedly during play. I have a Creative Labs Sound Card. Why? We are investigating this issue right now. We suspect it's driver related. Try a different (older) driver version for your sound card. Multiplayer Issues: BACK TO TOP 1) Why does the game chug when I'm hosting and I die? This is by design. It is to avoid getting a chug when someone joins the game. It holds off until you die so it doesn't disrupt play. To change this, set cg_deferPlayers to 0 from the console. 2) I hear GameSpy Arcade supports Elite Force. How do I get it to work? The version of GameSpy Arcade that comes on the Elite Force CD will ask you to update it the first time you use it. This upgrade is required for full Elite Force support. When prompted, update the software. 3) How do I set up a multiplayer server? There's a great article about the basics of server setup here: http://www.admincentral.net/guides/ef/efserversetupbasic.htm 4) Where can I find a generic server config file? We have one for you at http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com. Here's the link: http://eliteforce.ravensoft.com/server_config.cfg 5) How do I ban people from my Elite Force server? Read all about banning people at this link: http://www.admincentral.net/guides/q3/banningplayers.htm Crashes And Gameplay-Stopping Issues: BACK TO TOP 1) The game crashes when I go to a new area or level. How do I fix this? From the main menu go into configure and then video and turn GL Extensions off. This fix is known to work for RageII cards in particular. 2) That fix didn't work. How else can I fix random crashes? A lot of outdated video card drivers can cause Elite Force to crash. Update your Video Drivers using the GL Setup Utility that's on the Elite Force CD. Overclocking your video card and/or processor can cause lock-ups and crashes with Elite Force. Overclocking is not recommended and we can't offer support to users who are overclocking their hardware. 3) I get a Hunk_Alloc crash in the game. What causes it and how do I fix it? When running the game with high sound quality and a really high resolution, the game requires more memory to run that has been allocated in the code base. You need to do one or more of the following: a) Play at a lower resolution b) Turn down your sound quality c) Bring down the console with the ~ key and type +set com_hunkmegs XX (where XX is the amount of RAM you want to allocate to run the game. Start with 64 and increase it if the error doesn't correct itself. The higher the number, the slower the game will run, which is why playing at a lower resolution is recommended. 4) The fifth forge level (Dissolution) crashes when I try to skip the cinematic. Help? The problem occurs when the framerate in the game drops below 10 frames per second. This is caused by running the game at a resolution that is too high for your video card to handle with any kind of speed. Lower your resolution and detail settings to increase the game speed. The fastest way to do this efficiently is to bring down the console with the ~ key and type exec low.cfg and hit enter. This will set all of your detail options to the lowest settings. If the crash still occurs, bring down the console and type map transition to send the game to the next level. This was fixed in the 1.20 Patch: Download It Here 5) On the Dreadnought levels, sometimes my teammates attack and kill me. Why? We found an error with the turrets on Dreadnought levels 2 and 3. If you destroy a turret while a projectile from it is still traveling and the projectile hits one of your teammates, the AI code gets confused and believes that you are attacking your teammates. We are attempting to resolve this issue now. In the meantime, either make sure not to destroy the turrets while the projectiles from them are in flight, or you can (if absolutely necessary) type map transition at the console to skip to the next map. This was fixed in the 1.20 Patch: Download It Here 6) In the Dreadnought control room cinematic, sometimes the game hangs and I can't continue. This was fixed in the 1.20 Patch: Download It Here 7) When I shoot a plasma filter, the game crashes. Why? This crash has been linked to use of the cheat codes...especially notarget. If you don't use the cheat codes, the crash won't occur. This was fixed in the 1.20 Patch: Download It Here 8) I'm getting an error message that says "Stvoy has caused an error in dplayerx.dll." How do I fix that? This error occurs when there is an extra dplayerx.dll in your Windows/System file. Find the extra copy of the file and delete it from the directory. It should fix the error. Input Devices: BACK TO TOP 1) Why is there no digital joystick support in the full version of Elite Force? The feedback we got from the demo from joystick users prompted the change. By going back to analog, we were able to provide a wider variety of joystick control options. When the patch is released, it will give you the choice of using the demo joystick configurations or the full version default control configurations. 2) I can't get the mouse wheel to cycle through the weapons in Elite Force? Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your wheel mouse. If that doesn't fix the error, bring down the console with the ~ key and make sure that you have the in_mouse variable set to -1. Otherwise, the mouse tries to use direct input and you loose the mouse wheel functionality.
Miscellaneous Questions:

1) I'm stuck in the game. How do I get past level _____?

Check out the complete online walkthru/Strategy Guide at http://guides.ign.com/guides/11735/

2) What is the console command to check the framerate?

Type in "cg_drawfps 1" (without the quotes) at the console and hit enter.
Use "cg_drawfps 0" (without the quotes) at the console to turn it off.

3) How do I skip the cinematics? Space Bar and Escape don't work?
Press the Enter key to skip cinematics. Or bind a key at the console to skipcinematic.

4) Does Elite Force have the same third person camera support that Quake III had?

Yes, it does. Go to the console and set cg_thirdPerson to 1.It's not in the menus because
it is technically an unsupported feature. Your mileage may vary.

5) How do I do a timedemo in Elite Force?

Start a server.
Set "g_synchronousClients 1" at the console
Type "record name"(where name is the name of the demo)
Play for a while
"disconnect"

You can then playback the demo thru the menus or "/demo name" at the console

6) Will Elite Force be released for other platforms? Mac? Linux? PSX II? DreamCast?

Other versions of the game including Linux, PlayStation II and DreamCast are entirely
dependent on the success of PC version of the game. Financial wisdom suggests that waiting
to see that the game is well received and selling well is a logical step before charging
into multiple contracts and serious financial commitments. If the game is financially
successful and shows signs of a solid launch, the likelihood of ports to other platforms
increases exponentially. Keep an eye on your local gaming news site for announcements
after Elite Force has been in release for a few months.

7) Is there any copyright information I need to be aware of?

trademarks and trade names are the properties of their respective owners.

8) The version number for the full version I have is v.0.28. Is that correct?

Yes. The version number is v.0.28 and not v.1.0, which is what a lot of people
were expecting. Fear not! You have the correct version if you have v.0.28.

9) Does Elite Force support SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Processing) for machines with
mutliple processors?

Yes. It has the same support as Quake III did. Go to the console by hitting the ~
key and type r_smp 1 and hit enter.

10) Where is the CD Key located? The game is asking for it...

The CD Key is printed on a sticker on the back of your Elite Force CD's jewel case.

11) Someone is asking me for my CD Key and they claim they are from Raven/Activision.
What do I do?

Treat your CD Key like your house keys. Don't give them out to anyone. If your key is
stolen, you may not be able to use the game again online. Each key is unique to each copy
of the game. Make sure that if someone is asking for your CD Key that the reply e-mail address
has an extension of @ravensoft.com or @activision.com. Any other one is bogus.

12) My CD Key is missing/not on the back of the jewel case. What do I do?

It's possible that manufacturing missed putting stickers on a very VERY small percentage
of the games. If you happened to get one of these copies, take it back to the store you
purchased it from and ask to exchange it. We haven't confirmed missing CD keys ourselves,
but there are some user claims to that effect.

13) My CD Key is missing a number/letter. It's too short. What do I do?

The keys are generally in this 18 digit format: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xx There are some,
however, that appear to have a CD-key like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx- x . Notice the extra space.
When you enter in the CD-key value, make it xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-0x , that blank is supposed
to be a 0 (zero).

Again, another viable option is to take it back to the store and exchange it.
